Anyone who has gone fishing at some point in their life knows that there is much more to it than just a pole with some line on it. The bait you choose, the spot you pick, and the type of rod and reel you use can make your fishing excursion a successful one or a not so successful one. It all depends on a variety of factors and most of the factors are actually in your control. One choice that many anglers have to make is the type of line they will be using.

Of course the need for a specific type of line can change depending on the type of fish you are going after, but lines come in two types: monofilament and fluorocarbon. There are many factors that you will need to consider when choosing your line.

Water permeability

Strength

Color

Visibility

Cost

Density

When you go through all of those determinants you will figure out whether or not you will need the monofilament line or the fluorocarbon line. Be sure to keep in mind that many anglers of all types have used monofilament lines for many. many years. Fluorocarbon is pricier and you might not need it if you are an every once in a while type of angler.

Find out more about the two lines from the infographic below.

Most people simply cannot afford the luxury of owning a yacht. However, that does not mean that you cannot enjoy time out in the Mediterranean or Caribbean on a beautiful and luxurious yacht. That’s right, spending sunshiny days on the water on a yacht is no longer just for the wealthy. There are yacht charters that allow you to set up a holiday that you will never forget. Holidays and time away are not the only reasons to charter a yacht. Host meetings, parties, or even tours on a yacht and have the time of your life.

Imagine heading out to sea on a boat that offers up the same treatment as the best hotels, but you can quickly escape to the deck to party on in the sun. You can even chose charters in places where rich and fabulous people frequent and there you will be able to see how celebrities and playboys really party it up in places like Cannes and Monaco. If a laid back destination is more your style, then you can choose destinations ideal for diving and sailing.

No matter what type of trip you have in mind, whether it is relaxation you are looking for or nonstop fun, chartering a yacht can be an incredible experience for you and your mates by Flowland.net.

Have you ever stopped to think about how the same issues that are affecting the ecosystems of the world also affect us when we charter a boat for a weekend of fun deep sea fishing? Commercial fishing by the unscrupulous damages the environment, decreasing the home security of the sea creatures who live and contribute to the health of oceans all over the planet. Commercial fishing is an important part of life for people who work in the fishing industry, and also for consumers. Without it, we simply would not be able to enjoy the variety of seafood made available to us from all parts of the globe. Yet, some regulation seems to be needed to keep overfished areas from leading to desolate conditions.

Orange Roughy, also known as Deep Sea Perch, have seen a population decrease drastically due to the new deep-sea trawling techniques from commercial fishing. Its recovery rate is slow because of its long life cycle — up to 156 years — and late a maturity age of 25 years. This is only one example of how over-fishing can wipe out a species, leaving less for those of us who enjoy the sport to find during our off shore excursions.

In the following infographic from Greenpeace, you will see some of the more extended effects of unregulated or poorly monitored fishing on a global scale:

Once again another fall season is upon us. While that might mean the water temperature is dropping, it does not mean that are fishing spirits are. Keep in mind that during the fall months a lot of things change. There are not as many people out on the water so if something does go wrong, there are less rescuers around too. Hypothermia is another potential threat even on days when the air is warm enough for a tee, the water can still be cold enough. No matter your reason for being out on the water this fall: boating, fishing, or sailing, follow these tips to stay safe in the fall.

Don’t be fooled by the weather. Always be prepared to dress for the water and not for the current weather. The temperatures in the fall can trick you into wearing short sleeves and warm weather gear, but the water is cool and a storm can bring in colder temps almost instantly. So make sure that you not only have extra layers but also some rain gear with you when you head out.

Let someone know that you are going out. It is always wise no matter the season to let someone know when and where you are going out and what time you should be coming back in from boating. Just make sure that you check back in after you’ve returned from your boating.

Keep an eye on the weather. The weather is never predictable, but with all the technology available you can check on it. Use your smartphone to track weather and be sure that there aren’t any storms popping up in the area where you are boating frequently.

Before heading out into the water, check your boat. It is always wise to go over and inspect your vessel prior to heading out. Check the communication gear, safety equipment, engine, and pumps to be as safe as possible.

As always do not drink out on the boat. Alcohol drains your body of its heat, so if something were to go wrong and you were to end up in the water hypothermia’s effects would take hold quicker.

Does that sound crazy to you? Us too.

Last month a video surfaced of a Texas man with his son out in the Gulf off of Galveston in a kayak with a fairly large shark on the other end of his fishing pole. Kevin Stevens along with his son Hunter decided to go fishing on a Saturday, and after about three hours they made the decision to start heading in because it was so hot out. As Stevens was getting ready to bring in his lines, he heard one of the reels begin to click. On the other end there was a shark that noticed the kayak and began to head off in another direction.

Stevens said that then he and his son went for a “Texas sleigh ride.” He pulled up the anchor of the kayak and let the shark have at it for about an hour. After that time the father and son got the shark up to the boat to realize that it was bigger than they had guessed, between 6 and 7 feet long. After the long battle Stevens was exhausted and the two cut the line and let the shark head off. Surely this is something that young Hunter, who wants to become a marine biologist, will remember forever. Take a look at the shark in the video below.

Do you think you would hang on to an almost 7 foot shark while in a 12 foot kayak for an hour or so?

If you love to fish, then it is likely that you often have dreams that include sea swells coming up and licking the sides of your boat while you are out in a deep blue ocean with nothing to see but water and sky. Hooking huge fish is another dream of any fisherman, and the best place to do that is out in the ocean. Deep sea fishing is not for the weak. The topsy turvy nature of the deep ocean waters ensure that any fishing boat will be rocking along in a rhythmic motion that can conjure up some feelings of sickness in just about anyone. If you feel like you are ready to take on the deep blue, then do it. The best place for you to start would be by hiring a charter boat and crew to take you out the first dozen or so times. That way you can make sure that deep sea fishing is surely for you. Some of the greatest deep sea fishing can be found int he United States. Here are three places on the east coast that you should check out.

Outer Banks, North Carolina

Get ready to catch plenty of billfish when you head to the Outer Banks to fish, as it is considered to be “The Billfish Capital of the World.” Blue and white marlin and sailfish are commonly caught off of the Outer Banks shores, and yellowfin tuna is another common fish to catch. There are numerous professional charter boats in the area that will help you to make the most out of your fishing expedition in North Carolina.

Ocean City, Maryland

Another capital waits for you in the ocean waters off of Ocean City, which is the “White Marlin Capital of the World.” Other fish that you might hang on your line can include mahi mahi, sea bass, flounder, and trout.

Islamorada, Florida Keys

Of course this list is going to be topped off with another fishing capital, “The Sport Fishing Capital of the World,” Islamorada. If you are looking to hook a swordfish that weighs over 100 pounds, then this is the place to try. Islamorada has plenty of charter boats ready to take you on a fishing trip you will never forget.
